A new Civil War is coming, heroes will be split down the middle and ideals will be challenged. Tony Stark and Carol Danvers take the stage at the heart of this conflict fueled by the idea of changing the future or protecting it.
Back in 2006, Mark Millar and Steve McNiven altered the Marvel Universe with the first Civil War, in a few months the cinematic universe will bring its own iteration of the conflict to the big screen with Captain America: Civil War, and now the world of comics is building up to another issue that will drive fans, old and new, to choose sides as they witness the schism between Earth’s mightiest heroes.
“The fun thing about CIVIL WAR [was] that the issues involved not only divided the heroes, they also divided the fans, to say nothing of the creative people,” Tom Brevoort, editor of both series. “The attempt was to craft the conflict so that each side held a valid and defensible position, so that a reader could fundamentally agree with either one side or the other, with neither being painted as absolutely right or absolutely wrong. While the issues involved are different, we’ll be taking the same approach to CIVIL WAR II.”
After Terrigen mists encircle the globe igniting the inhuman race and simultaneously crippling mutantkind, a new Inhuman with the ability to profile the future will rise. The Marvel universe will battle over the question of using this ability or not. Who is this Inhuman and what is he all about? And more importantly, given the choice of exercising “predictive justice” to change the future as you see fit, or reject it and let the future unfold in its own, where would you stand?
“CIVIL WAR was a seismic event that demanded the attention of existing fans and created new ones because it tapped into the most pressing question of its day, CIVIL WAR II will do the same.” – Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor-in-Chief .
Apart from the main event, the repercussions of Civil War will span across other titles starting with, Civil War II: Gods of War, Civil War II: Amazing Spider-Man, Civil War II: X-Men coming to comic book stores this June! Hercules will have to question his role as a god in the conflict, Spider-Man will recognize the responsibilities that come with great power and using it in a safe manner, and Magneto will attempt to use this power to shape the fate of Mutantkind.
