In a video released by Sony Tuesday evening, the often rumored result of Hideo Kojima and Konami’s separation has come true. HIdeo Kojima, with support from Sony, will develop a new franchise for Playstation via his new (independent) studio, Kojima Productions.
In the above video, Sony’s Andrew House, current President/CEO of SCEA (in japanese no less) welcomed the legendary developer (sporting a stubbly beard) to the PS family. To reiterate, the studio will be independent but their first release will be a Playstation exclusive. It will be awhile before we see the first product from their partnership, but taking Hideo’s place in video game history into consideration, it will be epically weird in the best way possible.
We’re hoping that he teams up with Guillermo del Toro again and gives a Silent Hills-type game another shot. ICYMI last year during Gamescom 2014, a free downloadable game titled P.T. was released, and those that were able to solve all the puzzles and get to the end discovered that this was actually an announcement for a new entry into the classic survival horror franchise, Silent Hills.
