Marvel is still at it with the expansion of its successful cinematic universe (MCU), now deciding to push forward with an Inhumans movie. Kevin Feige, President of Marvel studios has long wanted to bring the Inhumans characters to the big screen, and given the amazing box office reception Guardians of the Galaxy had, it seems like the perfect time to bring even lesser known characters to the screen. A couple of days ago Groot himself, Vin Diesel, posted on facebook a hint disguised as a “Thank You” post that made mention of the Terrigen Mist mutated team of outsiders.
If that wasn’t enough, Collider reported earlier this week, that Marvel is satisfied with the screenplay provided by Joe Robert Cole.Cole comes from Marvel’s writing program so it makes sense that the studios are pleased with the work provided.
It would be interesting to see how the whole character legal rights plays out for the Inhumans, given that their first appearance was in Fantastic Four #45 (1965) and FOX is still in control of Fantastic Four originated properties, similar to what happened with the Chitauri/Skrull debacle for Avengers. During the Kree-Skrull war, the Kree performed a number of experiments on earth’s primitive Homo Sapiens to find a way around their halt in evolution and to create a race of soldiers powerful enough to use against the Skrulls. Eventually the Kree abandoned their experiments in fear of a genetic prophecy that predicted the end of the Kree Supreme Intelligence because of the experiments. The test subjects went on to form a society of their own with advanced technology. After experimenting with the mutagenic Terrigen Mists, they acquired powers as well as genetic defects and deformities, they called this Terrigenesis. They called themselves Inhumans, lead by their King, Black Bolt and the rest of the royal family, Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon, Triton, Crystal, Maximus the Mad and their personal teleporter and escort, Lockjaw the Dog(who rocks a sweet ‘stache!). The Inhumans have partnered up with other super teams like the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, as well as the Avengers.
No directors or actors are attached to the film yet, but Marvel has specified that it will be a part of their scheduled films to be released. It would be interesting to expand Vin Diesel’s role in the Marvel universe outside of Groot, its no secret he’s met with Marvel for other potential roles in the past. What do you think of Diesel as King of the Royal family himself, Black Bolt? Slightly comedic if you think about it, on one side you have one character who’s vocabulary is limited to “I” and “am” and “Groot” specifically in that order, and on the other, one that doesn’t talk since his voice is a weapon of quasi-sonic magnitudes.
