A few weeks ago I was listening to one of my favorite video game related podcast “The Indoor Kids” , and that week’s guest was a chiptune musician that goes by Professor ShyGuy. “The Poor nerd’s Justin Timberlake” as noted on his twitter profile, goes on to talk about his history playing in bands, and how he came about creating chiptune music (you can listen to the episode here).
His music can be described as an 8-bit soundtrack inspired, high-energy nerdtunes, usually accompanied with guitar, keyboards & drums. He has toured the Southeast, from Baton Rouge to Atlanta, Nashville, St. Louis, Wichita, etc. and has Shared the stage with Ellen McLain of Portal and Jonathan Coulton fame, opened for and performed with Samantha Newark of Jem and the Holograms (source). He has created original music as well as performed covers of various songs. When I heard his cover of Metric’s Black Sheep (If you saw Scott Pilgrim you may be familiar with it) on the podcast, I was driving on my way to work, & it being one of my favorite songs I yelled “Fuck yeah!” & shared my enthusiasm on twitter:
